HOW DID KNUST COME ABOUT?
The University was established by government Ordinance on 6th October 1951 and was opened officially on 22nd January 1952 with 200 Teacher Training Students Transferred from Achimota to form the basis of the new college. It was initially called Kumasi College of Technology, and then later became the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology by an Act of Parliament.
How many halls are located at KNUST?
Currently, there are six halls of residence administered by a hall council consisting of senior and junior members. These are;

The Largest Hall in KNUST
Currently, unity hall is the largest hall with an original accommodation capacity of 448 rooms with extra 36 flats. It is an all-male hall with modern facilities. Members in this Hall are known as “Continentals”
Which faculty is the biggest in KNUST?
The Social Sciences faculty building has a student capacity of 11,100 making it the biggest one in Africa.
Fees At KNUST
KNUST fees are in two parts i.e., academic and hall fees. The fee for the academic session is ghc1,351.43. Also, fees for accommodation are as follows:

2.1 GUIDELINES FOR SELECTING AN UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME
2.1.1 Undergraduate Programmes duration
Most first-degree programmes of study are of Four (4) Years duration.
2.1.2Minimum/General Entry Requirements.
WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS
An applicant for admission to a degree programme in the University must have CREDIT passes (A1-C6 in WASSCE and A–D in SSSCE) in the THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Core
Subjects (English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science), and CREDIT passes in THREE WASSCE/SSSCE Elective Subjects or its equivalent relevant to the chosen programme with aggregate24 or better.
**It is worth noting that the THREE Core Subjects are prerequisite for all Programmes of study at our University.
B.GCE/IGCSE (CAMBRIDGE) ‘A’ & ‘O’ LEVELS/MATURE APPLICANTS Holders of GCE/IGCSE must have FIVE credits at the ‘O’ Level including English Language
and Mathematics(or its approved equivalent), plus passes in at least THREE (3)subjects at the Advanced Level/Three Credits in the case of mature applicants. In addition, the applicant must fulfil the appropriate Faculty or Departmental requirements.
GENERAL BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (GBCE)/ ADVANCED BUSINESS CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (ABCE)
ABCE and GBCE are both needed to qualify an applicant for a programme.
Holders of GBCE must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects including English Language and passes in THREE Elective Subjects including Business Mathematics.
ABCE holders must have passes in THREE Compulsory Subjects plus THREE (3) Optional Subjects relevant to the Programme of study.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB)
Holders of International Baccalaureate (IB) should have a minimum of grade 4 at the Higher Level (HL) in Three (3) Subjects relevant to the Programme of choice and minimum
of grade 5 in Chemistry for Health and Allied Sciences. For Engineering, at least grade 5 at the Higher level (HL) in Mathematics. In addition, one must have a minimum of grade 4 in English Language and Mathematic sat the Standard Level (SL) and at least grade C in a Science subject at the IGCSE.
AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL GRADE 12
An applicant foradmission to a degree programme in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.0. For admission to the University School of Medicine and Dentistry, an applicant must have a Final Grade Point of at least 3.25. Admissions will be to the Year 1.
2.1.3 OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION
(a) Ghanaian/Other Applicants with Foreign Results/Certificate
The University shall request an evaluation of results/Certificate other than those mentioned above, (a) to (f), from the Ghana Tertiary Commission (GTEC) and/or other International Credential Evaluation Agency to facilitate the determination of the suitability of the applicant for admission.
(b) Applicants from French Speaking Countries must provide a minimum of one-year English Proficiency Certificate.
(c) Documents not in English should be accompanied by accredited translations in English.(d)Transfer of Applicants
Applicants from other universities (local and international) who are seeking admission to continue their programme are required to submit official transcript, high school results and a cover letter through the Deputy Registrar, AcademicAffairs([email protected]),or the International Programmes Office ([email protected]) to the Head of Department. Proof of English proficiency and English translation of the transcript must be added where necessary.

Core Subjects: Credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science Elective Subjects:Credit passes in THREE subjects from the following options:
Science:Chemistry,Physics or Mathematics,and Biology or General Agriculture.
ii.Business:Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Business Mathematics,
Costing and Elective Mathematics. Applicants with this combination must have a minimum of C(for SSSCE applicants) and B3 (for WASSCE Applicants) in Integrated Science.
iii.General Arts:Economics, Geography, and Elective Mathematics. Applicants with this

Applicants must have attained the age of 25 years at the time of submitting the Application Forms and must have a minimum ofTWO (2)years post qualification experience. In addition ,applicant must satisfy any of the following qualifications:
Diploma or Higher National Diploma Applicants: Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Agriculture or Agriculture-related programme from a recognized institution. OR
GCE Applicants: Five(5)credits at O’ Level including English Language and Mathematics,Biology, Chemistry and Physics, or Additional Mathematics, and Additional General Science.
WASSCE/SSSCE Applicants: Credits passes in THREE (3) Elective subjects in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics or General Agriculture or Crop Husbandry or and Horticulture.

•An applicant must have demonstrated interest in the area of Architectural Design.
•It must be noted, however, that experience at an Architect’s Office or familiarity withcomputer drafting techniques aloneis not a special advantage. The Department shall not regard these as substitutes for the minimum entry requirements to pursue a degree Programme. Applicants may be required to pass a written and an oral examination after pre-qualification exercise.
BSC.CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT (BUILDING TECHNOLOGY)

Mature Candidates with University Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (Top-Up) would be placed in the THIRD YEAR, whilst Candidates with Ministry of Health Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or HND in Science Laboratory Technology will be placed in SECOND YEAR. All Candidates must have TWO (2)YEARS post-qualification experience and must have passed an interview.

BSc. MIDWIFERY (MATURE APPLICANTS FOR TOP-UP)
•Applicants must be at least 25 years of age at the time of the application.
•Applicants must satisfy the University’s General Requirements for Admission into degree programmes.
•Applicants must be a registered Midwives with a Diploma in Midwifery
•Applicants must have a minimum of TWO (2) years’working experience in a clinical area.
•Applicants in this category must pass an Interview.
BSc. PHYSIOTHERAPY AND SPORTS SCIENCE
•Applicants should be a least 25 years at the time of the application.
•Applicants must satisfy the general requirements for the programme (i.e WASSCE/SSSCE, OR ‘A’ Level).
•Candidates who have relevant Diploma certificate sin Sports and Exercise Science,Fitness Assessment, Physiotherapy and Orthotic Assistant, coaching etc. and who must have worked for at least three (3) years will be considered for admission into year two.
•Applicantsmust be declared medically fit by the University Hospital and mustundergo a physical fitness assessment and must pass a written and/or oral interviewconducted at the Department.

A. DOCTOR OF VETERINARY MEDICINE(DVM)–DIPLOMA HOLDERS Entry Requirements
•A Diploma from Pong-Tamale Veterinary School orany other recognized Veterinary Training Institutions,
•Three (3) years relevant Post qualification working experience.
•All diploma holding applicants must also satisfy the minimum University entryrequirement for Admission.
•Applicants with BSc.Agriculture (Animal Science Option) or BSc. Biological Sciences not below 2nd Class lower division are eligible to apply for Admission. Such applicants will be admitted directly into 2nd year of the Programme.
B.BSc. MIDWIFERY (Sandwich) Entry Requirements
•Applicants must satisfy the University’s General Requirements for Admission into Degree Programmes.
•Must be registered Midwives with a Diploma in Midwifery
•Be at least 25 years of age at the time of submitting the application
•Must have a minimum of TWO (2)years working experience in a clinical area
•Applicants in this category must pass an Interview.
•This Programme is taken during the Holidays.
BSc. NURSING (Emergency Option)
Entry Requirements
•Applicants must satisfy the University’s General Requirements for the Admission toDegree Programmes.
•Must beregistered general Nurses with a Diploma in Nursing
•Must beat least 25 years of age at the time of the application.
•Must have a minimum of TWO (2)years working Experience in a clinical area.

D.DOCTOR OF PHARMACY (PHARM D) TOP-UP (Fee-Paying Only) Entry Requirements
•Applicants must satisfy the University’s General Requirements for Admission into Degree Programmes.
•Must have a Degree in Pharmacy with at least THREE (3)years post-registration experience.
•Must pass an interview.
E. Bachelor of Herbal Medicine(BHM) Entry Requirements
•Applicants who are Registered Diagnostic Medical So no graphers (RDMS) certified or equivalent from a recognized institution.
•Must have a minimum of THREE (3)years working experience may apply.
•Must pass an interview.
