Student’s Admission, Graduation and Progression
To be admitted into the Diploma in Health Statistics programme, a candidate must satisfy the minimum University and the Department of Statistical Sciences entry requirements.
SSSCE Holders

Requirements for Graduation
For candidates to qualify for the award of Diploma, they must satisfy the following conditions:
- A minimum of 60 credit hours in the two-year duration.
- Attend all lectures and pass all required courses
- Complete a required period of industrial attachment
- Obtain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 1.5.
- Attend all lectures and pass all required courses
The study programme comprises the following inter-related elements of courses work and examinations.
Lectures: Covering both theoretical and practical aspect of health statistics.
Exercises: Various assignments including classwork, homework, quizzes, demonstrations and test to enable students gain a thorough understanding of the subject taught and their application to real life situations.
Field trips: Offering the possibility to visit health statistics workshops and institutions to put studies into context.
Examination: Mid-Semester and End-of-Semester written and practical examinations.
Credits Requirement
Candidates require a minimum of 30 credits for year 1 and a minimum of 30 credit hours for year 2.
Additional requirements for graduation
Assessment of candidates in the programme shall be based on Continuous Assessment made up of quizzes, class tests, mid-semester examination, take-home assignments, etc and end-ofsemester examinations. Progression
- Candidates may carry a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 21 credit hours per semester
- A student is required to maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 1.50 after the first semester.
- A student with GPA of less than 1.50 after first semester shall be put on probation.
- There shall be only one re-sit examination at the end of every academic year. For a student to qualify for a re-sit examination, he/she should have taken the main semester examination during the academic year.
- A student who obtains a Cumulative GPA of 1.50 or higher after first year shall progress.
- A student who obtains a CGPA of less than 1.5 after first year shall repeat.
- Transcripts shall reflect all grades and marks a candidate obtains for all courses. All final grades for courses taken shall be used in the computation of a student’s GPA.
Graduation
In addition to the general University examination regulations, students are expected to satisfy special Department/Faculty/Institute requirements approved by the Academic Board.
The University and Faculty require that a pass in every required course shall be obtained by a student to qualify for the award of a Diploma certificate. A student is expected to earn a minimum CGPA of 1.5 to qualify for certification.
